About the event
Contest Rules
- Contest is for students in grades K-12.
- Students may choose to work in a group. Please note if selected as a winner, prize will be divided amongst the group.
- The 2022 Theme is: Save Food Save Money : Ways to Prevent Food from Spoilage.
- Student’s artwork inspires people to make simple changes to prevent food from spoiling.
- Important: All images and words must be CLEAR and easy to see from a distance.
- Include a specific and short message to encourage preventing spoilage. Visit www.SavetheFood.com/storage for excellent ideas! Ex. To Refrigerate or Not to Refrigerate, Explain Best By Dates, Keep Em Separated, etc.
- Use an 8 1/2 x 11 in. paper in landscape orientation, using crayons, pens, markers, paints or other art supplies, no highlighters. No digital creation is allowed.
- No cutouts, pasted on, or attached materials of any type may be used.
- Avoid using any brand names or names of stores in your artwork. Artwork including brand names will be disqualified.
- Students are to upload their art and complete Entry Form. Click here for ONLINE ENTRY FORM.
- Winners MUST keep original work. If artwork is selected as a winner, original will be submitted.
- By entering, participants agree that Food Waste Prevention Week and sponsors may use their artwork for education and promotion.
Judging Criteria
1. Clarity of Theme - Ways to Reduce Food Spoilage. The work combines technique, expression, and organization through artistic and critical judgement to achieve an effective interpretation of the theme- reducing food spoilage.
2. Creativity and Originality. There is evidence of imagination, creativity, and individuality. The result is distinctive and the concept presented in a unique way that is imaginative and inventive.
3. Organization & Clarity. The use of elements and the principles of art are used effectively and selectively to enhance the overall appearance of the work. Image and words are clear.

2nd place: $250
3rd place: $100
